Tank Johnson's Second Amendment Rights Violated
Chicago Bears football player Tank Johnson was charged with six counts of possession of a firearm without a "gun owner identification card" yesterday. Each charge carries a potential penalty of up to one year in jail. According to the article:

Unless specifically exempted by statute, all Illinois residents who buy or possess firearms are required by law to have a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card. They are issued by the Illinois State Police.

Such a law is clearly unconstitutional. No one should be required to get permission from the state police in order to exercise their second amendment rights. I urge Mr. Johnson to fight these ridiculous charges in court.
