Oklahoma City Tea Party

We had a massive turnout for the Tea Party on the steps of the Capitol building at noon today. I'm guessing there were approximately 25,000 people there today. I got there at around 11:00 and I had to park at least one mile away.

There were some great signs:

A very popular flag:

It was easy to tell who public enemy #1 is:

I first took a perch on the steps above the podium to take some pics. This was taken at about 11:30. Then a woman shooed me off the steps. By noon, the number of people had at least doubled from this.

I then took a position on the base of a statue to take some more pics and listen to the program. The audience was huge, but very polite, friendly, and orderly.

Fantastic!

We went to the Tea party in Charlottesville, VA -- that blue bastion in an otherwise red area.

Turn out was about 1500 at its peak. There might have been double had it not been for the damp, cold wind and the February temperatures.

It was still a blast, though. Good crowd...someone remarked later that you can tell when conservatives gather: they go around cleaning up the area before they leave.

Security, as far as I could see, was two policemen on bikes. But then it was held across the street from the police station.

We'll post pictures tomorrow. Just got in at 10:30 pm...too tired to download pictures.

Lots of "Don't Tread on Me", "Sic Semper Tyrannis", "Capitalism not Socialism", etc., signage. What remained of the stalwart band paraded (no "marches', said the police) the five or six blocks to our local (liberal) Congressman's office. We left lots of teabags and hand-made signs.

I'm sure he'll complain to the local media...for some reason, the office was closed. Imagine that...

Sounds great, Dymphna! I wonder why that congressman wasn't there. LOL.

Oklahoma is the reddest of the red states. 66% of the vote went for McCain-Palin last November and they carried every county. But I'm happy to see the turnout for the Tea Parties in the blue states were just as large and enthusiastic.

Text from James Delingpole, Telegraph, U.K.

James Delingpole has written a spot-on critique of the DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis report
“Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”.
Delingpole's cutting article combines with El Marco's photos to illustrate the Obama administrations folly.
