Irish Voters Reject EU Treaty

The European Union bureaucracy in Brussells, and the governments of the 27 countries who are members of the EU are trying to establish a new constitution that would transfer considerable authority from the 27 national governments to the EU government. So, one would think that with such an important change the voters of each country would be asked to ratify the move in a referendum? Here is a complete list of the countries who allowed their voters a say on the matter:

Ireland

The EU apparatchiks are afraid that the voters of the other 26 countries might not vote the way they want them to. Kind of reminds you of why the Castro brothers have not allowed free elections in Cuba for nearly 50 years. They are afraid that the voters might not keep them in office.

The Irish voted against the new constitution, and now the gnomes of Brussels are scratching their heads, trying to figure out how to foist this on the people of Europe without their consent. Perhaps they might find some good advice in Havana.

Hibernia Girl is celebrating.

Gates of Vienna has an interesting article about how the Irish were required to give their voters a say.

Boo Hoo: Taoiseach Brian Cowen says the result of the voting has created “considerable uncertainty and a difficult situation"

I'm surprised that the democraphobes in the EU didn't find a way to rig the election to make the pro-ratification vote win. The so-called Democrats here in the USA have no qualms about tampering with an election.
