Another Bad Appointment from the First Bush Administration

In an article about Jenna Bush's upcoming wedding, Doug Wead, whom I have never heard of before, spouts off like a Democrat:

Doug Wead, a former aide to President George H.W. Bush and author of a book on presidents' kin, calls Jenna's ceremony "the anti-Alice Roosevelt wedding." Former President Theodore Roosevelt's daughter was married in 1906.
"That wedding took place during a time of prosperity and peace; this one at a time of economic struggle and war," Wead said. "The Roosevelt family was outgoing, flamboyant; this is a private family. That was one of the most popular presidencies in American history. Even John Adams didn't go on Mount Rushmore, but Teddy Roosevelt went on Mount Rushmore. This is an unpopular presidency. Alice had no bridesmaids. Jenna has 14."
Economic struggle, eh Doug? 5% unemployment and 4% inflation rate is an economic struggle? The much-heralded recession has yet to appear. I doubt that many people who currently live in the USA in 2008 would care to switch places with those who lived here in 1906.

How in the world did the Elder Bush pick so many losers for his administration? David Souter, Dick Darman, and whoever this Wead guy is. We might as well have elected Dukakis in 1988.

Actually, if you did a little bit of homework you would find that Wead was one of the few conservatives on staff on the first Bush administration.

I don't know were you have been, but if you watch the news you will see that there certainly is the appearance of an economic struggle. Let's talk about Gas prices, loans, and housing markets?

Being a conservative doesn't mean going along with everything this administration has done. Ron Paul was highly critical of Bush and he is also way more conservative.

Wead sure doesn't sound like a conservative now. I suspect that he and W may have bumped elbows during Daddy Bush's administration. Or perhaps Wead felt that he was owed a job in W's administration, but didn't get it.

Yeah, there's an appearance of an economic struggle in the news. Primarily because the news is reported by leftists who only report the bad news during W's administration and only reportrd the good news when Clinton was president.

Gas prices are definitely not W's fault. Loans and housing markets are the fault of the people who participated in the housing price bubble in certain parts of the country.

The fact remains that large parts of the economy are doing quite well, in spite of what simpletons like you may believe.

Wead is not wrong. Try spending dollars on a trip to Europe. I just got back from a buisness trip to London, Paris and Roime and get this: Americans are now the poor ones. We used to be the ones in the 4 and 5 star hotewls. No more. Now it's the New York Hotels filled with the French and Germans and Italians. Try visitng Times Square lately and get a notion of the fact that the American dollar has gotten worthless. We are in a global economy, not just in Podunk anymore , And in that economy, we have fallen greatly. Why do you think Oil has only risen 40% in Europe and the price actually dropped in China? It is becasue the American dollar stinks. So when Wead says the ecoinomy is bad. He is right. BTW, if you want to know what has made the dollar fall, Well How about W borrowing from China to blow up bridges in iraq and then borrowing to rebuild them again.
The wrold economy is exploding. it is the Us economy that is beign left behind because we have borrowed to spend $5000 a minute in Iraq. i guess you don;t see that as W's doing, but then again, I guess you don't see him as capable of any wrong.

Most of the fluctuation in exchange rates can be explained by changes in relative interest rates. The current weakness of the dollar is not a big problem and many businesses in Europe and elsewhere are suffering from it more than we are. There will come a time when the dollar appreciates again, against most foreign currencies.

Actually when foreigners loan money to the USA, it causes the dollar to appreciate. They must sell their currencies in order to buy dollars in order to buy our bonds.

Read my posts concerning Bush's stupid plan for amnesty for illegal aliens, and you will see that I feel he is quite capable of doing wrong.
