Coin of the Week: Scottish bawbee of Charles II (1678)
This coin was issued during the period when Scotland and England were two separate countries but ruled by the same kings: The Stewarts of Scotland. I bought a coin similar to this one when I was in Edinburgh two weeks ago. This photo comes from David Parrish's website.
The inscriptions read "Carolus II Dei Gratia Scotorum, Angleterre, France, et Hibernia Rex" (Charles II King of Scotland, England, France, and Ireland by the Grace of God), and "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit" (Don't mess with me).
