Breach of National Security

I'm a big fan of Jay Z and Beyonce. But that doesn't mean they should be invited into the white house situation room:

Rapper Jay-Z’s apparent visit to the White House Situation Room reveals a radical departure from the last eight years of security policy, according to a senior Bush administration official.
“During the Clinton administration, tours were permitted of the Situation Room, people who could get a West Wing tour could also see the Sit Room. Soon after the Bush 43 inauguration and after we found out about it, we stopped the practice and I believe the only exceptions had to be okay’d by either the chief of staff, national security adviser or the deputy chief of staff,” the official wrote in an e-mail.
A twitter user named Linda posted pictures online of Jay-Z in the Situation Room along with his entourage and wife Beyonce during a White House visit. An e-mail to White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton asking if the pictures do in fact show Jay-Z in the Situation Room has not been returned.
According to the Bush official, who was present for a remodeling of the Situation Room in 2006, “We made very few exceptions to the rule, usually a visiting foreign dignitary attending a meeting there or someone without a clearance who needed to be briefed in that facility for some reason.”

Institute of Physics Questions Integrity of Climate Science

For many years, the left have used the excuse that there was a 'scientific consensus' and that the science behind climate change was 'indisputable'. Most people left it at that because most know little or nothing about science. However, now scientists in fields other than climatology are weighing in on the subject:

The Institute of Physics, which represents 36,000 physicists across Britain and the world, has told a Commons inquiry into Climategate that the controversial emails at the centre of the storm represent "prima facie evidence of determined and co-ordinated refusals to comply with honourable scientific traditions".
In short, the IoP has called into question the integrity of the entire field of climate change.
The Commons science and technology committee is interviewing key climate scientists and global warming sceptics. The standard of the interrogation on the first day was tame and the protagonists merely restated their arguments.
The star witness, Professor Phil Jones - the CRU's head and the sender of most of the hacked emails - was let off particularly lightly, his most damning admission probably being: "I have obviously written some really awful emails."
Far more interesting are the written submissions to the inquiry, including that from the Institute of Physics.
Although it has been made abundantly clear that the inquiry is not about whether global warming is actually happening, the IoP criticises one of the fundamental slices of evidence behind the assertion that we are currently experiencing a period of unprecedented global warming.
In the absence of actual recorded temperatures, scientists have used 'proxy data' – for example, tree rings – to determine average global temperatures over the past 1,000 years. However, in the final few decades of the 20th century, the proxy data has been jettisoned in favour of temperatures recorded on modern instruments. The IoP is critical of this method:
"The [Climategate] emails reveal doubts as to the reliability of some of the reconstructions," the IoP states. "For example, the apparent suppression, in graphics widely used by the IPCC [the United Nations climate panel], of proxy results for recent decades that do not agree with contemporary instrumental temperature measurements."
The IoP also suggests the scope of the Common inquiry should be broadened to include not only the CRU, but also the entire field of climate science.
"Most of the e-mails were exchanged with researchers in a number of other leading institutions involved in the formulation of the IPCC's conclusions on climate change," the submission reads. "In so far as those scientists were complicit in the alleged scientific malpractices, there is [a] need for a wider inquiry into the integrity of the scientific process in this field."

People do not like to admit that they have been gulled or conned, so a vested interest in the myth was permitted to arise, and a lazy media never bothered to ask any follow-up questions. Many volunteers who went to Calcutta came back abruptly disillusioned by the stern ideology and poverty-loving practice of the "Missionaries of Charity," but they had no audience for their story. George Orwell's admonition in his essay on Gandhi—that saints should always be presumed guilty until proved innocent—was drowned in a Niagara of soft-hearted, soft-headed, and uninquiring propaganda.

0bama Administration Abandons Allies

Throughout the eight years of the Bush administration, we were constantly hearing the left tell us how stupid and incompetent he was in his foreign policy. Yet Bush was much better than 0bama. James Corum talks about how 0bama has abandoned our British allies on the issue of the Falkland Islands

The Bush administration got a lot of things wrong – but at least they usually had some idea of who America’s adversaries were and who America’s friends were. For example, Bush’s policy of maintaining the special relationship with Britain was a simple recognition of the close bonds of alliance, friendship and interests that the British and Americans have had since World War I.
In contrast, Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are apparently clueless about some of the most basic aspects of foreign policy: supporting one’s friends and fencing in one’s adversaries. The declaration of neutrality on the issue of the sovereignty of the Falklands issued by the US State Department is clear proof of the uselessness of the Obama administration.
In the grand scheme of things it makes little sense for America to give moral support to the Kirchner government in Argentina. Kirchner is no friend of the US and Kirchner’s government is in deep domestic trouble for its gross mismanagement of the economy and its attempts to suppress the press criticism of the regime at home. One has to wonder what benefit America gets out of hurting Britain on this issue. Perhaps Obama thinks that the more Leftist Latin American regimes will somehow approve of the US. If that is the case, he is truly mistaken, as most Latin American nations dislike the Argentineans, and have little sympathy for the mess Argentina got into over the Falklands.

There were no initial reports of any injuries in the blast in the Co Down town, which was heard as far away as Tandragee and Markethill.Police said the vehicle was abandoned at the front of the building around 10pm.Officers were in the process of evacuating the area when the car exploded.PSNI Area Commander Chief Inspector Sam Cordner condemned the "reckless" attack saying it was only by "a sheer miracle that nobody was injured or killed this evening".Police said the blast happened about 10.37pm and that warning calls had been made to a hospital and a local business.

Duke Rape Hoax Liar Arrested, Charged with Multiple Offenses

Many of us recall Crystal Mangum. The woman who falsely accused three white Duke University lacrosse players of rape. She became a cause celebre of the white male - hating left and of their allies in the media. This in spite of the facts that (1) Mangum had previously made false accusations of gang rape, (2) The accused men had credible alibis, (3) Mangum had a long history of mental illness and a long criminal record, and (4) Mangum changed her story several times.

Fortunately, the young men were exonerated. Now we learn that Mangum has been arrested and charged with multiple violent offenses:

Durham, N.C. — Durham police late Wednesday arrested the woman who four years ago falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of raping her.
Crystal Mangum assaulted her boyfriend, set his clothes on fire in a bathtub and threatened to stab him, investigators said.

A judge set her bond at $1 million during a Thursday morning court appearance. Mangum, 33, has been appointed a public defender and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22.
Police charged her with attempted first-degree murder, five counts of arson, assault and battery, communicating threats, three counts of misdemeanor child abuse, injury to personal property, identity theft and resisting a public officer.

Do you lefties still believe that Mangum and Nifong were the good guys in that whole sordid mess that happened in 2006? Many of you will stop at nothing to harm white men, even if they have never done a thing to harm you.

Even if we're not capable of recognizing true talent here, at least someone in the world knows who to give proper honor and respect to in the world of music.

Yes, but only just. I also calculated the trend for the period 1995 to 2009. This trend (0.12C per decade) is positive, but not significant at the 95% significance level. The positive trend is quite close to the significance level. Achieving statistical significance in scientific terms is much more likely for longer periods, and much less likely for shorter periods.

but the text is more reasonable, if also, well, wrong:

He further admitted that in the last 15 years there had been no ‘statistically significant’ warming, although he argued this was a blip rather than the long-term trend.
As is common, the most egregious behavior is by the anonymous headline writer. The journalist, Jonathan Petre, can claim innocence, except for the peculiar use of the word “blip” showing a mind boggling lack of understanding of statistics for someone reporting on science, but at least an attempt at fairness.

The problem, Charlie, is that you're the one who does not understand statistics. If this 'trend' of 0.12c per decade (which is quite likely within the margin of error of the accuracy of the instruments being used) is not statistically significant, then THERE IS NO TREND.

These temperature readings are a sample. It is not possible to measure the temperature of the earth's atmosphere at every position in the atmosphere at every point in time from 1995 to 2010. Thus, our sample runs the risk of sampling error: The possibility that the sample is not representative of the overall temperature of the entire atmosphere. That is why we conduct a test for statistical significance. If the result is not statistically significant at at least 95% confidence, then there is a strong possibility of sampling error. And WE CANNOT MAKE ANY CONCLUSIONS FROM THE SAMPLE.

It is perfectly reasonable to say that there is no evidence of global warming since 1995.

This is karma at its best. These idiots, including Jack Nicholson, Chevy Chase, Oliver Stone, Harry Belafonte, Kevin Costner, Steven Spielberg, and many others have always had access to information about the atrocities of the Castro regime. The British military has praised the courage and audacity of the IRA's South Armagh Brigade. Just read "Bandit Country" or any other authentic books on the area.

The British "soldiers" have killed many more civilians in Ireland than the so-called Irish "terrorists."

The IRA has not been saintly, but the British military has been even less so.

This is a typical red herring response of IRA terrorist supporters concerning the role of the British military in Northern Ireland. The problem the IRA have is with their fellow citizens of Northern Ireland who do not want to leave the UK and join the Republic of Ireland. These people, known as Ulstermen or Ulster Scots have been in Northern Ireland just as long or longer than the catholic Irish.

I asked an Ulster Scot friend of mine who lived in Northern Ireland throughout the Troubles and who escaped two assassination attempts to respond to this pro-IRA brainfart:

Making Excuses for Taylor Swift

The winner of the Grammy for Album of the Year the other night did a duet with aging rocker Stevie Nicks..... and laid an egg. Now Taylor's record label finds it necessary to make excuses for her singing, which sounded like a sick chicken:

Borchetta first responded to the backlash in The Tennessean. Asked by The Associated Press why he felt the need to defend Swift, he said because the criticism was "just over the top."
"It's that classic thing that critics do of building something up and then wanting to tear it down," he said.
Swift rehearsed her performance and duet with Stevie Nicks two different times at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in front of a crowd of people. Critics were nicer then. Entertainment Weekly wrote of the rehearsal, "The two women's voices complimented each other nicely on the harmonies of 'Rhiannon ...'"
But on Sunday night's Grammy show, Borchetta said Swift had a technical issue that made her worry about her performance. (Attempts to reach The Recording Academy for comment went unanswered.)
"We had a volume problem in the ear. So, she was concerned that she wasn't able to hear everything in the mix," Borchetta said. "That's just part of live TV. ... So you're going to have difficulties on occasion. Unfortunately, on one of the biggest stages, we did have a technical issue. She couldn't hear herself like she had in rehearsal."
As quickly as you could say "Fearless," bloggers and media outlets, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, pounced on Swift's performance. The chatter at times overshadowed the four Grammys she won - including album of the year.

The artist who should have won the Grammy for Album of the Year does not need anyone to make excuses for her performance. Gaga and Elton rocked the house. What's more, Gaga never lipsyncs. She never uses an autotuner. She sounds better live than in the studio.

Most people have at least some intellect. They know to put their socks on before their shoes and avoid walking across freeways during rush hour. But every now and then you across an unusual individual who is sadly bereft of any thought, reasoning ability or common sense whatsoever. That appears to be the case with the author of a blog called "Bitterqueen" or "Friends of Ours".

When one reads his lunatic rants about the Lady Gaga, one is struck by the total absence of any relation between his written words and the realities of the Goddess of Music. He apparently goes to great effort to think of the stupidest things he could possibly say about Her. Here are a few choice examples:

Through Lady Gaga the entertainment industry is delivering a powerless caricature. Whatever happened to the voice of the strong woman in rock n' roll? While Lady Gaga is trying so hard like an adolescent teenager to shock her parents, nobody is going to remember her so-called music. Lady Gaga ain't no talent; she's a manufactured product.

Hey dumbass. The only one who manufactured Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga. She's not a record label creation like Britney Spears or Taylor Swift. Gaga worked her way up, as a songwriter for other artists, and played in nightclubs for years. She writes all her own songs. She always sings the lead live and in person in her concerts. She never lipsyncs. She and her Haus of Gaga design her imaginative costumes and her videos.

And I know its too difficult for you to understand. But I saw Gaga's concert in St Louis three weeks ago. It was an absolute riot. The audience were on their feet from the beginning to the end of the concert and were singing and dancing along with every song. There was not a dry eye in the house. She is the most talented singer/songwriter/pianist to arrive on the music scene in years, if not decades.

David Runciman: Socialist Moonbat of the Week

Ah yes, nothing like a political science prof from a distinguished university like Cambridge to tell us poor unwashed masses what we're supposed to want! David Runciman is a Senior Lecturer (approximately equal to Associate Professor in the USA) in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the 800 year-old University of Cambridge. Here's what he has to say about us stupid Americans who don't want National Socialist Health Insurance:

Last year, in a series of "town-hall meetings" across the country, Americans got the chance to debate President Obama's proposed healthcare reforms.
What happened was an explosion of rage and barely suppressed violence.
Polling evidence suggests that the numbers who think the reforms go too far are nearly matched by those who think they do not go far enough.
But it is striking that the people who most dislike the whole idea of healthcare reform - the ones who think it is socialist, godless, a step on the road to a police state - are often the ones it seems designed to help.
In Texas, where barely two-thirds of the population have full health insurance and over a fifth of all children have no cover at all, opposition to the legislation is currently running at 87%.

Instead, to many of those who lose out under the existing system, reform still seems like the ultimate betrayal.
Why are so many American voters enraged by attempts to change a horribly inefficient system that leaves them with premiums they often cannot afford?
Why are they manning the barricades to defend insurance companies that routinely deny claims and cancel policies?

So why are we so stupid?

If people vote against their own interests, it is not because they do not understand what is in their interest or have not yet had it properly explained to them.
They do it because they resent having their interests decided for them by politicians who think they know best.
There is nothing voters hate more than having things explained to them as though they were idiots.
As the saying goes, in politics, when you are explaining, you are losing. And that makes anything as complex or as messy as healthcare reform a very hard sell.

It's certainly true that the glib, patronizing manner of an 0bama or a Pelosi does not help the cause. But has Prof Runciman considered the possibility that most Americans are quite happy with the current state of their healthcare? And has he considered the following issues:

(1) That the US federal government has shown itself on numerous occasions in the past to be quite incompetent at doing anything?

(2) That there are a number of state and local programs that help people who cannot afford health insurance?

(3) That many young, healthy people don't want to be forced to pay for something they don't need?

(4) That once the federal government takes control of health care then the racist 'affirmative action' programs supported by 0bama and others on the left in the USA will push whites to the end of the health care line?

(5) That Americans really don't want to pay for the health care of 12 million illegal aliens that 0bama seems determined to give permanent amnesty to?

When are You Guys Going to Open Your Eyes?

How much more do we have to hear about falsified data, cherry-picked data, outright lies, exaggerations, etc, etc ,etc, before those of you who have fallen for the Great Climate Change Hoax wake up and realize you have been had? It turns out now that the head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was aware of the false claims concerning the melting of the Himalayan glaciers well before the Copenhagen summit. So what did he do about it? Nothing.

The chairman of the leading climate change watchdog was informed that claims about melting Himalayan glaciers were false before the Copenhagen summit, The Times has learnt.
Rajendra Pachauri was told that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessment that the glaciers would disappear by 2035 was wrong, but he waited two months to correct it. He failed to act despite learning that the claim had been refuted by several leading glaciologists.
The IPCC’s report underpinned the proposals at Copenhagen for drastic cuts in global emissions.

Whatsamatter Lefties?

So your god Barack hasn't turned out to be quite what you thought he was? You shouldn't be surprised because he really never did anything before being elected president. He just ran for office and made nice-sounding speeches filled with conventional leftist bromides. As a senator, he usually voted 'present' on most bills and never sponsored any successful legislation. He probably never had to exert himself in school, since he was able to get into Columbia and Harvard via affirmative action.

So now that he is president and has huge majorities in both houses of congress, he can't get anything done at all. I am grateful for this. Had we elected a truly savvy politician like LBJ, who really knew how to work with congress and connect with the American voters, then we would be in trouble. A modern-day Johnson would have found a way to pass his national socialist health care plan, passed the cap-and-tax restrictions to combat the nonexistent global warming problem, and granted amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens.

0bama is not just a glib marxist with a messiah complex. He is an incompetent one. And for that I give thanks.

Bill Clinton appointed federal judge Nicholas Garaufis to to the bench. Now the people of New York get to reap the fruits of Clinton's stupidity. Garaufis has forced a racist hiring quota on the Fire Department of New York:

Federal Judge Nicholas Garaufis -- without a shred of evidence that the FDNY had discriminated against minority applicants -- last week imposed strict racial hiring quotas on the department.
For every five new hires, Garaufis ordered, the department must reserve two spots for black applicants and one for Hispanic applicants -- until precisely 293 minority firefighters have been hired.
He also ruled that fully 7,400 minority applicants who took the FDNY entrance exam in 1999 and 2002 could claim monetary damages from the city.

Hey Nicholas, do you think it is possible that any of the unsuccessful white applicants may respond in kind? If not, try an experiment. Pick a stranger at random, preferably a large, tough-looking man, and punch him in the nose. Watch how he responds.

IRA Supplied Russian Surface-to-Air Missile to Spanish Terrorists

The Irish Republican Army, who are nothing more than a group of psychotic baby-killers, supplied a Soviet-made SAM (Surface-to-Air Missile) to Basque Separatist (terrorist) group ETA:

An attempt to shoot down the Spanish Prime Minister's plane by a Basque terror group failed when the missile supplied by the IRA did not work.
Three times in 2001 Basque separatist group ETA tried to destroy Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar's presidential jet, but each time the Russian-made SAM-7 missile refused to work.
A suspected ETA member arrested earlier this month told Spanish investigators that the Strela missile system, which homes in on a jet's exhaust, was aimed at the Prime Minister's Dassault Falcon 900 executive jet when he visited the Basque country during a regional election campaign.
But each time, twice at an airport near the coastal resort of San Sebastian and once at an aerodrome near the Basque capital Vitoria, the weapon failed to launch.
Documents seized at the suspect's home in the Basque town of Lizartza at the time of his arrest reportedly show the faulty missile launcher was supplied by the IRA.
A letter, written in English, was sent to members of the IRA complaining about the sale of the defective SAM-7 to ETA.

What I don't understand is why anyone wants to confer any credibility or consideration on Sinn Fein/IRA whatsoever. The only place they belong is in a cell at Guantanamo.

Reading most press accounts, one would be forgiven for thinking Armageddon had arrived after the Supreme Court struck down the District's handgun ban in 2008. Predictions sprung forth from all directions that allowing more citizens to own guns and not forcing them to keep them locked up was going to threaten public safety. According to D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, more guns in homes would cause more violent crime.
This has never been the case. Local politicians enthusiastically embraced the 1977 handgun ban predicting it would make Washington a safe place by dramatically reducing murder rates. But they were as wrong three decades ago as they are now.
A telling story is illustrated by the murder numbers since the handgun ban and gun-lock bans were struck down. Between 2008 and 2009, the FBI's preliminary numbers indicate that murders fell nationally by 10 percent and by about 8 percent in cities that have between 500,000 and 999,999 people. Washington's population is about 590,000. During that same period of time, murders in the District fell by an astounding 25 percent, dropping from 186 to 140. The city only started allowing its citizens to own handguns for defense again in late 2008.
Few who lived in Washington during the 1970s can forget the upswing in crime that started right after the ban was originally passed. In the five years before the 1977 ban, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27 murders per 100,000. In the five years after the gun ban went into effect, the murder rate rose back up to 35. One fact is particularly hard to ignore: D.C.'s murder rate fluctuated after 1976 but only once fell below what it was in 1976 before the ban. That aberration happened years later, in 1985.

Will President Zero and his fellow gun grabbers look at this data and learn from it? Don't hold your breath.

Now Why Aren't Those Polar Bears Going Away?

The facts keep getting in the way of the carefully crafted mythology of the Branch Carbonians. Their lies about the polar bear populations declining due to thinning arctic ice were debunked long ago because (1) arctic ice is not thinning, and (2) polar bear populations are increasing. But Carbonians and their allies in the media and government still try to make these ridiculous claims anyway.

Here is some more evidence on the non-decreasing polar bear populations, from the people who live near them:

IGLOOLIK — As the world hears tales of polar bears pushed to the brink of starvation by the thinning ice caused by climate change, Theo Ikummaq says the story told by Nunavut hunters is much different.
Ikummaq, a wildlife officer for 28 years who’s travelled on the land around Igloolik since the 1950s, says polar bears are indeed coming closer to human settlements in search of food, but they’re not skinny or sickly.
Instead, hunters in the region are reporting well-fed bears and mothers travelling with multiple cubs, another sign that bears are having no trouble finding food. The male population is also up, he said.
“They [hunters] are guaranteed to be seeing polar bears at camp,” Ikummaq said. “This much we know now.”
“Twenty years back, you went caribou hunting, there was never a time you saw a bear. But in the last six years, that’s when polar bear-human encounters have occurred more constantly.”

Bad news like this undoubtedly bothers the Carbonians to no end. I recall the email from Kevin Trenberth, head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research:

The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.

Trenberth and the people he was corresponding with in the email (Mann, Jones, etc) are not dispassionate scientists who are trying to discover what is truly happening. They WANT their constructed view of the world to be true. And they will do anything. Concoct any type of fraudulent research with questionable data and methods. Do anything they can to smear those of us who doubt them.

And you know why? They have gone so far with this ridiculous web of lies that there is no turning back. Once a critical mass of people catch on to the fact that they are perpetrating such a massive hoax, their careers will be over and many of them will likely be subject to criminal prosecution. They have nothing to lose by postponing that day for as long as they can.

Dirtbag of the Week: Thomas 'Slab' Murphy

One of the most notorious IRA terrorists. He was nicknamed 'slab' because his victims inevitably ended up on an autopsy slab. Managed to avoid prosecution for years by a simple trick: His house straddled the border between the UK and the Republic of Ireland. An interesting article about him:

Thomas 'Slab' Murphy, now a stocky, balding 56-year-old farmer, is single, a moderate drinker and a non-smoker. His interests are Gaelic football, darts and road bowling and he's only ever been prosecuted for motoring offences and claims he was questioned by gardai merely for having driven after taking alcohol.
But 'Slab' Murphy is also a ruthless IRA leader, a former chief of staff of the IRA and the man who personally masterminded the importation of hundreds of tons of lethal weapons from Libya which, we are told, have been destroyed.
At least that's what the Sunday Times said about him and when he sued for libel and lost.
According to gardai, the RUC, and intelligence services on both sides of the border, Thomas 'Slab' Murphy is the IRA leader behind some of the worst atrocities to take place during The Troubles.

Another Glitch in the Global Warming Mythology

The Branch Carbonians will stop at nothing to attempt to prove their gigantic lie is the truth. The latest IPCC report claimed that the Himalayan glaciers would melt completely by 2035. As it turns out, this was also based on bullshit science:

A WARNING that climate change will melt most of the Himalayan glaciers by 2035 is likely to be retracted after a series of scientific blunders by the United Nations body that issued it.
Two years ago the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a benchmark report that was claimed to incorporate the latest and most detailed research into the impact of global warming. A central claim was the world's glaciers were melting so fast that those in the Himalayas could vanish by 2035.
In the past few days the scientists behind the warning have admitted that it was based on a news story in the New Scientist, a popular science journal, published eight years before the IPCC's 2007 report.
It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was itself based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.

So how likely is it that the Himalayan glaciers will melt by 2035?

Professor Julian Dowdeswell, director of the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge University, said: "Even a small glacier such as the Dokriani glacier is up to 120 metres [394ft] thick. A big one would be several hundred metres thick and tens of kilometres long. The average is 300 metres thick so to melt one even at 5 metres a year would take 60 years. That is a lot faster than anything we are seeing now so the idea of losing it all by 2035 is unrealistically high.”

How much more of this crap do we have to put up with? It is time that the politicians and the 'scientists' who are promulgating this hoax be called to account.

US Immigration for Haitian Earthquake Victims?

Robert Kirchhoefer raises an important issue concerning Haitian refuges from the recent earthquake:

Immigration from and deportation to Haiti has been a hot-button issue for decades. It's about to get white hot.
The crisis in Haiti is now an urgent matter of establishing life-sustaining resources, law and order, and search and rescue efforts. As horrific as the current crisis is, the next phase will be equally complex but arguably more controversial for United States policymakers. How will the United States -- a country that had monumental border issues waiting in the winds before the Haiti earthquake -- address the issue of, potentially, hundreds of thousands of Haitian refugees?
As reported by the Washington Times, this question is going to be an aftershock of political discourse:
Americans are already pouring humanitarian aid into Haiti, but the next question for President Obama will be whether to grant temporary legal residence to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants and legal visitors from Haiti.

I would be all in favor of welcoming many of the law-abiding Haitians into the USA, if it weren't for one thing: The racist, so-called 'affirmative action' programs favored by 0bama and many of the Democrats. These programs will give the new immigrants preference over many current US citizens for university admissions, hiring, promotion, and government contracts. Lower-class whites will be pushed to the end of a longer and longer line.

And furthermore, if the USA is such a horrible place for minorities, then why do so many blacks and hispanics from other countries seek to come here? Many of them go to great effort to live in the USA.

Google Takes a Stand Against ChiComs

Very good news. After sucking up to the Chinese government for years, Google is finally standing up to their repressive policies

It has been dispiriting to see America’s banks apparently stand for nothing more lofty than plunder. It has been demoralizing to see President Obama hiding from the Dalai Lama rather than offend China’s rulers.

So all that makes Google’s decision to stand up to Chinese cyberoppression positively breathtaking. By announcing that it no longer plans to censor search results in China, even if that means it must withdraw from the country, Google is showing spine — a kind that few other companies or governments have shown toward Beijing.
One result was immediate: Young Chinese have been visiting Google’s headquarters in Beijing to deposit flowers and pay their respects.
China promptly tried to censor the ensuing debate about its censorship, but many Chinese Twitter users went out of their way to praise Google. One from Guangdong declared: “It’s not Google that’s withdrawing from China, it’s China that’s withdrawing from the world.”

Islamists Coddled in Britain

If the Brits and other European countries end up with sharia law some day, they have no one but themselves to blame. This can be seen from how they are pampering muslim extremists:

A group of Muslim extremists who screamed 'rapists' and 'murderers' at British soldiers went unpunished yesterday - and called their conviction 'a badge of honour'.
The five were given conditional discharges for shouting 'baby killers' and 'terrorists' and waving placards at hundreds of soldiers returning from Iraq.
Outside court they were surrounded by a mob of supporters and boasted they would do the same again, saying they wanted to see sharia law in Britain.

The men, all of whom are on benefits, were each ordered to pay £500 in costs towards the prosecution. Outside the court, they defiantly declared: 'The taxpayer paid for this court case. The taxpayer will pay for the fines too out of benefits'.
Surrounded by other followers of Islam4UK - the group led by so-called preacher of hate Anjem Choudary - they said they would protest again.

French president Nicholas "Lucky Pierre" Sarkozy has announced plans to tax Google advertising:

The French government is considering levying a tax on the advertising revenues of Google and other internet portals, in the latest sign of a European backlash against the activities of the US internet search group.
President Nicolas Sarkozy instructed his finance ministry to examine the merits of a tax in response to complaints from the French media that Google and other sites are generating advertising income using their news and other content. He also called for an inquiry by French competition authorities into a possible “abuse of dominant position” in the advertising business of big internet sites.

Mr Sarkozy commented after the publication of an independent report for the French culture ministry that proposed a tax on Google, Yahoo, Facebook and other sites, to help fund initiatives for writers, musicians and publishers to make money from the web.

I wonder if we could interest the French in a gently-worn president? He would fit in quite well there.

Levin apologises for ‘worst deal of century’

During the dot.com craze of the late nineties, many internet stocks were trading for far more than they could ever possibly be worth. Many companies were taken public that had never turned a profit, and in some cases had not even begun operations.

At the height of the craziness, America Online purchased media giant Time Warner, for what was then valued at $164 billion worth of AOL stock. A more realistic value for the stock would have been less than 10% of that. Former Time Warner exec Jerry Levin has recently apologized for selling the company for a will-of-the-wisp:

Jerry Levin, who sold Time Warner for AOL shares inflated by the dotcom boom, has marked the 10th anniversary of the disastrous $164bn deal with a call for today’s corporate titans to accept responsibility for the recent financial crisis.
The former Time Warner chief executive, who had avoided apologising for the billions of dollars destroyed by the deal, on Monday made a mea culpa in an appearance on CNBC.

“I presided over the worst deal of the century, apparently, and I guess it’s time for those who are involved in companies to stand up and say: you know what, I’m solely responsible for it,” said Mr Levin. “I was in charge. I’m really very sorry about the pain and the suffering and loss that was caused. I take responsibility.”

At the time, there was talk of Yahoo purchasing Disney. That would have been interesting.

Freezing Temperatures in Peru Blamed on Global Warming

Its amusing watching the Branch Carbonians twist themselves into pretzels in order to explain the non-warming of the earth. Now we read about how Peru's 'mountain people' must deal with freezing temperatures:

The few hundred people who live here are hardened to poverty and months of sub-zero temperatures during the long winter. But, for the fourth year running, the cold came early. First their animals and now their children are dying and in such escalating numbers that many fear that life in the village may be rapidly approaching an end.
In a world growing ever hotter, Huancavelica is an anomaly. These communities, living at the edge of what is possible, face extinction because of increasingly cold conditions in their own microclimate, which may have been altered by the rapid melting of the glaciers.

Am I reading this correctly? The mountain people have 'increasing cold conditions' caused by 'rapid melting of glaciers'? If the glaciers are melting, then their microclimate must be warmer, not colder.

And furthermore, have you ever been on a warm mountain? Unless its an active volcano, mountains tend to be cold, no matter how much CO2 my Nissan spews this year.

Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac to Cost Taxpayers $400 Billion

George Bush and many other Republicans warned about the two quasi-governmental mortgage companies. Meanwhile, Democrats like Barney Frank continued to push for expansion of mortgage lending by the two companies. Other Democrats like Rahm Emannuel and Jamie Gorelick made millions while working for the companies. And now we get the bill

Dec. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Taxpayer losses from supporting Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will top $400 billion, according to Peter Wallison, a former general counsel at the Treasury who is now a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.
“The situation is they are losing gobs of money, up to $400 billion in mortgages,” Wallison said in a Bloomberg Television interview. The Treasury Department recognized last week that losses will be more than $400 billion when it raised its limit on federal support for the two government-sponsored enterprises, he said.
The U.S. seized the two mortgage financiers in 2008 as the government struggled to prevent a meltdown of the financial system. The debt of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks grew an average of $184 billion annually from 1998 to 2008, helping fuel a bubble that drove home prices up by 107 percent between 2000 and mid-2006, according to the S&P/Case- Shiller home-price index.

There is no limit to the stupidity and incompetence of the left.
