The 0bama Recession Worsens

Thanks to the stupid policies of 0bama and his allies in congress, the recession has gotten worse, with a 6.1% annualized decline in real GDP for the first quarter (January - March) of this year:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. economy shrank at a worse-than-expected 6.1 percent pace at the start of this year as sharp cutbacks by businesses and the biggest drop in U.S. exports in 40 years overwhelmed a rebound in consumer spending.

The Commerce Department's report, released Wednesday, dashed hopes that the recession's grip on the country loosened in the first quarter. Economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected a 5 percent annualized decline.
Instead, the economy ended up performing nearly as bad as it had in the final three months of last year when it logged the worst slide in a quarter-century, contracting at a 6.3 percent pace. Nervous consumers played a prominent role in that dismal showing as they ratcheted back spending in the face of rising unemployment, falling home values and shrinking nest eggs.

So what's your plan 0bama? You want the US economy to keep falling until its equal with that of Kenya?

His Holiness Barack Hussein 0bama wants racial equity in prison sentences for selling different types of cocaine:

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration is asking Congress to close the big gap in prison sentences for dealing crack versus powdered cocaine, a law that critics say is unfair to blacks.
Such sentencing reform efforts tend to focus on lowering the mandatory minimum sentences for crack cocaine possession, but in prepared testimony to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs, Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer did not spell out exactly how the administration hopes to make the law more fair.
"The administration believes Congress' goal should be to completely eliminate the disparity in prison sentences between crack cocaine and powdered cocaine," Breuer said in written testimony to be delivered Wednesday.
Federal law now has what lawyers call a "100-to-1" ratio for cocaine sentences, in which a person selling five grams of crack faces the same five-year mandatory minimum sentence as someone selling 500 grams of powder cocaine.
Critics of the law say it unfairly punishes black offenders, pointing to statistics showing 82 percent of federal crack cocaine convicts were black, while nine percent were white.

Ohio State Climatology Professor's Results found "Irreproducible"

Lonnie Thompson is a professor of geology at Ohio State and also a member of the Ice Core Paleoclimatology Group of Ohio State's Byrd Polar Research Center. He is famous for being cited in Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" (AIT) that won Al a Nobel prize and an Oscar. In his vita, he boasts:

In 2006, I served on the Science Advisory Board’s for both IMAX Film “The Ice Age” and on Al Gore’s Film “An Inconvenient Truth,” in which our NSF-funded research is highlighted.

In AIT, Gore presents a graph he calls "Dr. Thompson's Thermometer" which purports to confirm the Mann et al "Hockey Stick" showing only small fluctuation in global temperatures going back to 1000 AD and a huge increase in recent years. But there are two problems with the graph:

(1) The graph that Al was showing in the movie was not Thompson's results, but rather Mann's hockey stick. In other words, Gore is claiming that Mann's hockey stick confirms Mann's hockey stick.

(2) Thompson's research only provides a graph of oxygen isotope ratios for six ice cores going back to 1000 AD. There was no attempt to show how these ratios correspond to temperature.

On January 11, 2008, Hu McCulloch, a professor of economics at Ohio State, asked Thompson if a public correction to Gore's movie should be made:

He stated that he recognized the error right away, and even sent Gore (and Mann, as I recall) an e-mail pointing out the mistake.
When I pressed him if it wouldn't be appropriate to make a more public announcement, given the high-profile nature of the error, Ellen Mosley-Thompson, his wife and co-author, stood up and offered that it was Gore's error, not theirs, so that they had no responsibility for it, and that in any event there was no forum in which to make a correction.

How ridiculous. Since Thompson is on Gore's science advisory board for the movie, he has an obligation to point out any factual errors, especially those that concern his own research.

To make matters worse, Thompson has failed to release the complete data he used in his research, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science in 2006. Thompson has lied to the editor of the journal, falsely claiming that all the data has been provided. Here you can read about Steve McIntyre's attempts to get the data.

Now, Hu McCulloch has determined, from the limited amount of data that Thompson has released, that Thompson's results are irreproducible.

This is the kind of crap that passes for 'scientific consensus' among the researchers that are being cited by Al Gore and other global warming alarmists. As an alumnus of Ohio State, I am not going to allow Thompson's academic misconduct to go unchallenged.

It is not surprising that the IRA baby killers would idolize a man who murdered thousands of innocent Cubans. They both share the same marxist ideology and complete lack of respect for human life. They don't have anything to trade with the other 95% of the world.

Second of all, the reason why the USA is not trading with Cuba is because the Castros, who were bosom buddies with the psychotic mass murderer pictured on the mural, have been running the country for the last fifty years without even a hint of free elections.

Who's Afraid of a Little Water?

During Al Gore's testimony before a congressional committee today about the 'moral imperative' of passing a climate bill, he mentioned his fears that the sea levels will rise:

Mr. Gore spoke of ice melting at both poles. Just the collapse of the Western Antarctic Shelf, he said, could raise global sea levels by 20 feet. By his calculation, that would lead to about 600 million “climate refugees.”

But apparently Al's not too afraid of becoming one of those 600 million refugees. In 2005, the same year his "Inconvenient Truth" movie came out, Al purchased a $4 million apartment in the St. Regis Tower in San Francisco. The satellite photo above shows the distance from his apartment to San Francisco Bay: Less than one mile.

So Al, when the ocean rises by 20 feet, how do you plan to get in and out of your apartment? Is there a helicopter pad on the roof?

Afraid of Something Al?

As you have probably heard, the inventor of the internet appeared before a House Committee today to testify that passing a climate bill was a 'moral imperative'. Christopher Monckton was scheduled to appear alongside Gore, but the House Democrats squashed the idea. Why did they do that?

A GOP House source told Climate Depot that the Democrats on the Committee said “absolutely not” to allowing Monckton to appear during today's Gore hearing. The GOP committee “pushed at multiple levels” to bring Monckton in to testify but the Democrats “refused,” according to the GOP source. Former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich was called in to testify after Monckton was rejected by the committee Democrats, according to the Congressional source.]
“The Democrats have a lot to learn about the right of free speech under the US Constitution. Congress Henry Waxman's (D-CA) refusal to expose Al Gore's sci-fi comedy-horror testimony to proper, independent scrutiny by the House minority reeks of naked fear,” Monckton said from the airport Thursday evening.
“Waxman knows there has been no 'global warming' for at least a decade. Waxman knows there has been seven and a half years' global cooling. Waxman knows that, in the words of the UK High Court judge who condemned Gore's mawkish movie as materially, seriously, serially inaccurate, 'the Armageddon scenario that he depicts is not based on any scientific view,'”

Monckton has previously challenged Big Al to debate, and was declined. Why are you afraid to debate, Al? I recall you debated Ross Perot on NAFTA and did quite well.

Why are the Left So Angry?

I've been reading a couple of bloggers ponder this puzzle here and here. One would think that with their Chosen One's 'historic' victory coupled with control of both houses of congress, they would be floating in ecstasy.

But the lefties aren't happy. In fact, many of them are in a state of conniption. Much of the problem can be traced to the failure of certain people (like yours truly) who refuse to worship their Messiah on bended knee. Even worse, many of us have gathered in Tea Parties and had the nerve to protest against their god's policies. They feel that protesting is something only they should be allowed to do.

Jeff at Protein Wisdom has some interesting thoughts on this phenomenon:

Watching people like Garofalo or Olbmermann or Congressional House Dems or Janet Napolitano or our sad little friend with the pet filipina wife, Gordo, quickly lose their stride and so offer conservative psychosis, extremism, and racism / xenophobia / misogyny / homophobia as a retort to policy issues merely firms up what many of us already knew: that many progressives have learned to parrot the few things it takes to make them sound smart, but once pressured, they haven’t the critical thinking skills to extrapolate out even from their own positions — which often leaves them forced to defend arguments that run counter to their own stated positions (recall how Amanda Marcotte’s “social construction” of “woman” argument took her into uncomfortable when the same posts-structural linguistic necessities she applied to “women” were applied to “homosexuals,” eg.), and leaves them with little recourse but to try to stave off “debate” altogether.

What Jeff says is very true. In particular the part about 'little recourse but to stave off debate altogether.' If I only had a dime for every time I have heard someone on the left try to stop debate whenever they start to lose an argument. And this is why the left often attempt to place restrictions on free speech, press, and assembly.

For example, consider the controversy over whether human CO2 emissions are causing global warming. I personally feel that anyone who believes that is true is a gullible idiot. But people have a right to be idiots if they so choose, and in a free society we give them a wide berth.

But consider Heidi Cullen of the Weather Channel, who proposed that the American Meteorological Society revoke its seal of approval from any TV weatherman who questioned the global warming orthodoxy. Or, even better, consider David Roberts, who advocates Nuremburg-style trials for members of the 'denial industry'.

He said in an interview today, just before convening a cabinet meeting, that this 'budget cut' would 'send a strong signal' that he is serious about cutting spending.

So sayeth Christopher Monckton in a recent letter to the committee on energy and commerce, US House of Representatives.

Monckton recently testified before the committee and disputed the testimony of Tom Karl, the Director of the US National Climatic Data Center, a Democrat witness. Each of the gentlemen were then asked to write the committee to give support to their testimony.

Monckton shows the satellite data is showing global cooling, in spite of the IPCC's predictions:

Is 'global warming' causing hurricanes to increase? Nope.

Are tornadoes increasing? Nope, not those either.

There is no "climate change" crisis. Actually, there is very little that mankind can do to alter the earth's climate. But there is a political crisis. Caused by the fact that most scientific research is government-funded. According to Monckton, the result is:

Nearly all of your nation’s scholars and scientists owe their primary livelihood to the involuntary generosity of the taxpayer. Some of your rent-seeking, scientific-technological elite, taking willful and shameless advantage of the taxpayer’s largesse and of the scientific illiteracy that is now widespread, are mightily enriching themselves by misleading your Congress into apropriating disproportionately large sums to permit them to address the non-problem of anthropogenic “global warming”.

And among the left, there is a ready audience for the nonsense being put out by phony 'scientists' like Hansen and Mann. Anything that will allow them to increase the extent of government control over people's lives and decrease freedom.

Janeane, I was at the Tea Party in Oklahoma City on Wednesday. I didn't see any signs of racism nor any references to 0bama's race whatsoever. What I did see was a lot of criticism of 0bama's policies.

Do you want to see who is really full of hate, Janeane? Go look in a mirror. You and your fellow leftists don't believe that we who believe in freedom and individualism should have any rights at all.

The Left Sneers at the Tea Parties

The jackasses on the left made a quite predictable reaction to the teaparties many of us attended yesterday. And who can blame them? I mean, why shouldn't we be happy about losing our freedom and our livelihoods, when we can go along with them and curry the favor of our Betters in the government elite? Who knows, they might even throw us a few crumbs!

Joe Conason, a lackey of the Clintons, who believes that leftwing governments should never be criticized, gave us these words of insight:

If conservative leaders no longer even try to offer serious solutions to national problems, nobody should underestimate their capacity or their will to mobilize angry Americans. Behind the April 15 "tea parties" rallying against President Barack Obama's economic program -- promoted as a new phenomenon by Fox News Channel and right-wing bloggers -- stands a phalanx of Republicans whose ideology is all too familiar.
At the apex of the tea-party movement, aside from such Fox revolutionaries as Rupert Murdoch, there is a well-funded organization known as FreedomWorks, headed by a former politician named Dick Armey. His past career should be instructive to any starry-eyed citizens who believe that they have at last found the true right-wing revolutionary path.

In reality, neither Fox News nor FreedomWorks (which I had never heard of before this article) had anything to do with organizing the tea parties. The tea parties were inspired by comments made by Rick Santelli on CNBC (that awful rightwing NBC). The tea party I attended in Oklahoma City was organized by a young man named Alan Webb. Likewise, the tea parties across the country appear to be all grass-roots movements.

Then Conason proceeds to lie about Armey's record when he was House Majority Leader:

As anyone with a functioning memory should know, the Republicans under the leadership of Armey and his cronies Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay proceeded to rack up excesses in spending and boodling that made the old Democratic Congressional leaders look quite stingy.

Joe, it is clear that you lack a functioning memory. When Armey, Gingrich, and Delay were running the House, that was the first time that the US federal government balanced its budget in decades. Of course, when that happened. Clinton stole the credit for it. Even though if Clinton's plan to nationalize the health care industry (revived recently by 0bama) had passed, it would have added hundreds of billions to the federal government deficit.

Oklahoma City Tea Party

We had a massive turnout for the Tea Party on the steps of the Capitol building at noon today. I'm guessing there were approximately 25,000 people there today. I got there at around 11:00 and I had to park at least one mile away.

I first took a perch on the steps above the podium to take some pics. This was taken at about 11:30. Then a woman shooed me off the steps. By noon, the number of people had at least doubled from this.

I then took a position on the base of a statue to take some more pics and listen to the program. The audience was huge, but very polite, friendly, and orderly.

Prepare for the Worst

In spite of all their claims of 'open-mindedness' and 'tolerance', the left are the most bigoted, repressive, hateful people in the world. They simply CAN'T STAND IT when someone disagrees with their lame opinons. Now the 0bama administration has taken the Department of Homeland Security (set up by Bush to fight against 9/11 - style terrorism in the USA) and turned it into a left-wing gestapo to repress what they refer to as 'Rightwing Extremism'.

I attended the Tea Party at the University of Oklahoma this morning. Al Gore's global warming failed to materialize and the weather was cold and damp. In spite of that, the crowd was very lively. Here is the sign I carried:

Andrew Sullivan: Socialist Moonbat of the Week

The sad thing about Andrew is he used to make some sense. Then some time around 2004 or thereabouts he had a frontal lobotomy and now sounds like a bleating leftist every time he opens his mouth. His latest brainfart on the teaparty movement has earned him the title of Socialist Moonbat of the Week:

I spent the better part of an hour earlier today scanning the various sites and blogs to try and understand what specifically the Fox-Pajamas tea parties are about. Having absorbed about as much of the literature as I can, I have to say I'm still befuddled.
Option 1: It's a protest of the bank bailouts orchestrated by Bush and now Obama. But surely these tea-partiers understand what would happen if we didn't bail the banks out. Are they advocating letting major banks fail? Or are they advocating a Krugman-style government take-over? No idea.

I am advocating letting major banks fail. The FDIC, in conjunction with the Federal Reserve and the Comptroller of the Currency, could have seen to an orderly liquidation of the failed banks. Those banks that did not have enough assets to satisfy their depositor accounts up to a maximum of $100,000 per depositor would have the difference made up by the FDIC.

This would have led to some temporary chaos in the financial markets. But in a free enterprise system, things will quickly sort themselves out. The function of the financial system is to bring two groups of people and organizations together: (1) Those who save and invest, and (2) Those business and consumers that want to borrow or seek equity investments. The two groups will find each other, unless government does something to try to prevent them.

There is nothing sacred about Citigroup, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, et al. It is much better to allow these companies to go out of business when they make poor decisions, rather than allow them to keep making poor decisions.

Option 2: It's a protest against tax hikes. But there have barely been any! Are they arguing that the planned return to Clinton era marginal rates is an outrage worthy of the colonists ... only months after an election in which the winning candidate ran on exactly that platform? Is that postponed future increase so radical that it demands a protest modeled on one in which people were taxed with no representation at all? Truly bizarre. And when you consider that we have gone through a very long period of relatively low taxation for the very successful, and a very long period in which their wealth has soared, and after an election where a majority of such people voted for Obama, the extremism seems unrelated to anything substantive underneath it.

There have hardly been any new taxes, but there has been a massive increase in government spending. In the long run this can only be financed with an increase in taxes, or, much worse, an increase in inflation.

Anyone who wants to pay higher taxes can send their personal check to the federal government. Those of us who advocate a limited government would like you to please stop sticking guns in our faces and forcing us to pay more tax.

Option 3: It's a protest against illegal immigration. Ok, so why the tea? Weren't all the original tea-partiers illegal immigrants?

The original tea-partiers were not illegal immigrants, nor immigrants at all. They were people who had moved from one part of Great Britain to another part.

Option 4: It's a protest against government debt. Yay! I will leave aside the somewhat awkward fact that Fox News and Pajamas Media barely covered the massive debt racked up by the Republicans during a period of economic growth. Instead, I'll proffer a simple point: If the tea-partiers are concerned about debt and concerned about taxes, one presumes they favor drastic spending cuts. But what are the tea-partiers proposing to do to Medicare, Medicaid, and social security?

Many of us were quite unhappy with Bush and the formerly Republican congress for excessive spending. But the amount they spent is miniscule compared with what 0bama and his worshippers in the Democrat party are beginning.

Something will have to be done about Medicare, Medicaid, and socialist security. They are trainwrecks looming just over the horizon. If we assume that young working people do not wish to pay 30% or 40% of their gross income just to pay for my generation's Medicare and social security, then we have no choice but to cut benefits. Most likely, we will have to make them means-tested. Only the poorest people will get any benefits.

These are not tea-parties. They are tea-tantrums. And the adolescent, unserious hysteria is a function not of a movement regrouping and refinding itself. It's a function of a movement's intellectual collapse and a party's fast-accelerating nervous breakdown.

No, Andrew. These are not tantrums. These are well-reasoned protests by people who are genuinely concerned about the direction our federal government is taking us. But I am glad that you oppose the protests. I will be attending two this week and the fact that you disapprove will make them much more enjoyable.

Racial Discrimination in Connecticut

The idiots on the left think that they can excuse a really asinine idea by giving it a nice-sounding name like 'affirmative action'. This is what is happening in Connecticut with the New Haven fire department:

NEW HAVEN — Frank Ricci has been a firefighter here for 11 years, and he would do just about anything to advance to lieutenant.

The last time the city offered a promotional exam, he said in a sworn statement, he gave up a second job and studied up to 13 hours a day. Mr. Ricci, who is dyslexic, paid an acquaintance more than $1,000 to read textbooks onto audiotapes. He made flashcards, took practice tests, worked with a study group and participated in mock interviews.
Mr. Ricci did well, he said, coming in sixth among the 77 candidates who took the exam. But the city threw out the test, because none of the 19 African-American firefighters who took it qualified for promotion. That decision prompted Mr. Ricci and 17 other white firefighters, including one Hispanic, to sue the city, alleging racial discrimination.
Their case, which will be argued before the Supreme Court on April 22, is the Roberts court’s first major confrontation with claims of racial discrimination in employment and will require the justices to choose between conflicting conceptions of the government’s role in ensuring fair treatment regardless of race.

I have seen this racist crap rears its ugly head in academia many times. Blacks and hispanics are given preference over whites in admission to graduate programs, hiring of faculty, and tenure and promotion decisions. Often, the preference is given to foreign blacks and hispanics who come from privileged backgrounds in their home countries, and are selected over American whites, many of whom come from low income families.

If any lefties who support 'affirmative action' are reading this. Please answer this question: If the USA is such an awful place for minorities, why do so many foreign blacks and hispanics want to come here? Whites in America are being pushed to the end of a longer and longer line.

Just What We Need

A recession is engulfing the country's economy. So what are our beloved politicians doing? Raising taxes in ten of the hardest-hit states:

A free fall in tax revenue is driving more state lawmakers to turn to broad-based tax increases in a bid to close widening budget gaps.
At least 10 states are considering some kind of major increase in sales or income taxes: Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin. California and New York lawmakers already have agreed on multibillion-dollar tax increases that went into effect earlier this year.
Fiscal experts say more states are likely to try to raise tax revenue in coming months, especially once they tally the latest shortfalls from April 15 income-tax filings, often the biggest single source of funds for the 43 states that levy them.

We are in the worst recession since 1982. Caused by stupid government policies. And now our leaders are doing everything they possibly can to make it worse.

Sinn Fein, the political arm of the IRA terrorist group in Northern Ireland, have elected five MPs to the British House of Commons in London. Yet these five people refuse to take their seats in parliament, because they are unwilling to take an oath of allegiance to the Queen.

I can respect that. I would not care to live in a monarchy either. Even if the monarch is no more than a figurehead, like Queen Elizabeth. But here is something the five MPs are doing that I cannot respect:

Five Sinn Fein MPs have claimed nearly half a million pounds in expenses on two rented London flats they share.
The MPs, who refuse to take their seats in the Commons, charged taxpayers £105,000 in the last financial year alone.
Gerry Adams, Martin McGuinness, Michelle Gildernew, Pat Doherty and Conor Murphy each claimed £21,000 under the controversial Additional Cost Allowances system - just short of the maximum.

So what was Sinn Fein's response to these charges?

A Sinn Fein spokesman said: 'Sinn Fein MPs do not receive a salary from Westminster, nor do they employ any family members. Sinn Fein makes no apology for refusing to sit in the British House of Commons. We also make no apology for ensuring that people who vote for Sinn Fein get the same democratic entitlements as everyone else.'

That takes the cake! Free London apartments for Sinn Fein politicians are part of their voters' "democratic entitlements". As if Sinn Fein/IRA ever believed in democracy.

Leftist politicians all over the world have two things in common. (1) They want the government to control the economy and people's private lives, (2) They are corrupt to the core, in order to live a lifestyle they could never achieve in a free enterprise system.

Fidel wants to help our socialist president. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus met with Fidel and brother Raul today. Congressman Bobby Rush (D-Ill) had this to say about Raul:

"I think that what really surprised me, but also endeared me to him, was his keen sense of humor, his sense of history and his basic human qualities,"

So what human qualities endeared you, Bobby? Raul and Fidel's refusal to hold free elections in Cuba for over 50 years? Their mass executions of political opponents? Their refusal to allow free speech and press in Cuba? Their refusal to allow free enterprise in Cuba?

Raul and Fidel have been running a big prison island for the last 50 years. And useful idiots like you have been giving them moral support.

Yes, a Warming World Can Still Have "Cool" Spells

The hottest year since 1880 becomes 1934 instead of 1998, which is now just second; 1921 is third.

And as for your upward-sloping trend with downward fluctuations. I can draw a graph too. The below graph "proves" that a cooling world can have warm spells.

North Korea Launches Taepodong-2 Missile

In the spirit of Juche, the North Korean regime has successfully tested an intercontinental missile capable of hitting Alaska with a nuclear warhead:

The U.N. Security Council approved an emergency session for Sunday afternoon in New York, following a request from Japan that came minutes after the launch.

When pressed for his response, President 0bama promised "massive retaliation" by holding his breath until his face turns blue and his ears stick out even farther.

Queen of England Meets 0bama, Challenges Him for Presidency in 2012

In a stunning announcement, Mrs. Elizabeth Mountbatten, aka Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, said today she will challenge Barack 0bama for the US presidency in 2012:

London (Reuters) - Queen Elizabeth II shocked president 0bama and political observers on both sides of the pond today by announcing her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for US presidency in 2012. When questioned by an Associated Press reporter, she responded "This jive blood here thinks he can spend money faster than me? He's just an amateur".

When asked about her platform, Mrs. Mountbatten said a top priority will be the nationalisation of the Dallas Cowboys and Boston Celtics, combined with caps on players' salaries.

President 0bama was reportedly too flabbergasted to comment.
